Entries that are illegible or do not contain complete information, with the AGREEMENT form attached and including the jump height when applicable, will not be accepted. The exhibitor may not be notified of the entry’s status before closing.

NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS

The following pertains to all obedience events:

OBEDIENCE FEES include a 50-cent AKC Recording Fee and $3.00 Event

Service Fee. The recording fee is INCLUDED in the entry fee; DO NOT ADD $3.50 TO YOUR ENTRY. (American Kennel Club rule, Chapter 11, Section 2).

ENTRY FEES shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by veterinarian or judge, or barred from competition by action of the show committee. If because of riots, civil disturbances, extreme and/or dangerous weather conditions, emergency, or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry fees will be made.

PLEASE NOTE: Refund of entry fees, less AKC processing fees (see above) and a $10 administration fee, for bitches entered in obedience that come in season after the closing date of this show may be obtained by sending a veterinarian's certificate to the trial secretary. This certificate must be postmarked before the opening day of the trial or given to the trial secretary before the start of the trial.

RETURNED CHECKS do not constitute a valid entry fee. The trial secretary will collect a $25 administrative fee over the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks from the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a cash only basis.

ENTRIES will not be accepted if received without fees or signature or the agreement on back of form. No fax, phone, or credit card entries accepted.

ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED if illegible or without complete information, including jump height. NO ENTRY shall be made and no entry shall be accepted which specifies any condition as to its acceptance.

OWNERS without an e-mail address may not be notified of entry errors in time for corrections in the catalog.

ALL RIBBONS and TROPHIES must be claimed at the show by the owner or handler. None will be mailed.

DOGS NEED be present only at scheduled time of judging and may leave immediately thereafter, unless required for further judging. THE HANDLER of each dog is solely responsible for having it ready at ringside when its class is to be judged. Judges are not required to wait for any dog.

ALL DOGS must be on leash and under control at all times. 'DOG' means either sex.

ANY EXHIBITOR whose dogs and/or children create unnecessary disturbances or repeatedly engage in unsafe or disruptive behavior may, at the discretion of the Trial Committee, be asked to leave the trial site. No refund of any fees paid will be made.

EXHIBITORS ARE RESPONSIBLE for any damage they or their dogs do and for cleaning up after their own dogs on the trial or hotel/motel grounds.

EXHIBITORS SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR VETERINARIANS’ RECOMMENDATIONS to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases, and have appropriate vaccinations.

BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS FOR SEATING.

THE Paducah Kennel CLUB, INC. assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury sustained by the exhibitors, handlers, or any of their dogs or property, and further assumes no responsibility for injury to children not under the control of their parents or guardians. AGREEMENT

INSTRUCTIONS

1. (Variety) if you are entering a dog of a breed in which there are varieties for show purposes, please designate the particular variety you are entering i.e., Cocker Spaniel (solid color black, ASCOB, parti-color). Beagles (not exceeding 13 inches over 13 inches but not exceeding 15 inches). Dachshunds (longhaired, smooth, wirehaired), Bull Terriers (colored, white), Manchester Terriers (standard, toy), Chihuahuas (smooth coat, long coat), English Toy Spaniels (King Charles and Ruby, Blenheim and Prince Charles), Poodles (toy, miniature, standard), Collies (rough, smooth).

2. The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record and dogs which according to their owner’s records, have completed the requirements for a championship, but whose championships are unconfirmed. The showing of unconfirmed Champions in Best of Breed competition is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where the dog completed the requirements for a championship.

3. (Dog Show Class) Consult the classification in this premium list. If the dog show class in which you are entering your dog is divided, then, in addition to designating the class, specify the particular division of the class in which you are entering your dog, i.e., age division, color division, weight division.

4. A dog must be entered in the name of the person who actually owned it at the time entries for a show closed. If a registered dog has been acquired by a new owner, it must be entered in the name of its new owner in any show for which entries closed after the date of acquirement, regardless of whether the new owner has received the registration certificate indicating that the dog is recorded in his name. State on entry form whether transfer application has been mailed to A.K.C. (for complete rule refer to Chapter 11, Section 3)

This month the Paducah Kennel Club is offering both BEGINNER and INTERMEDIATE Agility Classes!

Classes are only $15 per session for a six week course. (That's really a good bargain - $90 payable to PKC prior to the first class.) Classes will be starting at 6:30 on Tuesday nights.

Email Agility Chair Gene Glastetter to sign up or if you have any questions.

If you plan to enroll in the BEGINNER classes, your dog and you must have completed a basic obedience class. To sign up for the INTERMEDIATE classes, you and your dog must have completed a beginner Agility course.

Beginners Agility Class

New Classes are forming @ Paducah Kennel Club!! The first Class is September 21st.

Enrollment begins now!!

Participation fee is $90 for six weeks, (wow, that’s only $15 per session – what a bargain) and fee is payable upon registration.

Instruction will begin at 6:30

On Tuesday night the Beginning Agility Class graduated. Agility Chair Gene Glastetter handed out the proof -

And more dogs than pictured, but that's my fault. Thanks to Martha Veatch for the great photos!

Then on Thursday, it was Graduation Day for the Pet Obedience class

Instructor Debbie Cavitt raved about what a great class this was!

Why, yes of course there was food involved! Treats for the humans and the dogs!

And after the certificates and goodies were handed out, the CGC and Therapy Dog International testing began.

Thanks to Agility Instructors Gene Glastetter, Virginia Mapes, Fred Jackson, Martha Veatch, Marjorie Loynes, and Judy Johnson. And to the Obedience Instructors Debbie Cavitt, Sally Moore, and Ginia Manchester.

You volunteered a ton of your time and energy for your Club and you sure are appreciated!

Scroll on down past the map on page 3, and on page 4 you'll see an alphabetized list of breeds.

Here, I'll walk you through it. So on page 3, let's check out the Papillons, and oh, say, the Whippets! On the table on page 3 we see:

PAPILLON 4 9:00 am 4 9:15 am
WHIPPET 2 1:10 pm 3 2:45 pm

This means the the ring assigment for Papillons is ring 4 at 9:00 AM on Saturday, and the same ring at 9:15 on Sunday. Whippets will be in Ring 2 at 1:10 PM on Saturday, and at 2:45 in Ring 3 on Sunday.

Now scroll down to page 4 to find out how many Papillons and Whippets are entered. First look for the Ring number and the assigned time. Let's see, Ring 4 at 9:00 AM on Saturday: There it is on page 6. Pugs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are listed first, which means they will show before the Papillons. You'll see this magical code

26 Papillons 14-9-2-1

What the heck does that mean? It means there are a total of 26 Papillons entered in the show. 14 are males ("dogs" in Dog Show lingo) who are working on becoming Champions, 9 are females ("bitches" - it's not a bad word at a dog show) who aren't yet Champions, 2 are dogs who are already Champions who will be vying for Best of Breed, and 1 is a bitch Champion.

Okay, you do the Whippets:

12 Whippets 4-6-1-1

Did you get it right? If you look at Ring 2 on Saturday at 1:10 PM, you'll see there are several breeds consisting of 33 dogs which will be judged before Whippets. At around 2 minutes per dog that means the Whippets won't actually start showing until somewhere around 2:10, even though they are in the 1:10 ring assignment. There are a total of 12 Whippets entered (NONE of them mine waaahhh). 4 are non-champion dogs, 6 are bitches trying to get points toward their championship, one is a Champion dog and one is a Champion bitch.

Easy, right?

On June 12th and 13th at our beautiful property on Fisher Road, (see map on the side bar) we're hosting our 51st All Breed AKC Dog Show!

Entries are up this year: we have 545 dogs entered on Saturday and 562 on Sunday!

There will be a $3 per car parking fee per day, or you can buy a weekend pass for $5. AKC rules state that only entered dogs are allowed. (As you can imagine for safety's sake! 562 dogs who are trained to show are probably enough!)

Come cheer on your favorite dog. Enjoy free ice cream from the Paducah Bank (who sponsors Best In Show because they rock) WOW! Truck, and delicious barbecue lunch from our vendors.

The Obedience Trial ROCKED!!!

The Paducah Kennel Club hosted an AKC all breed obedience trial at the beautiful club property on Fisher Road. Folks came from at least five states to show their dogs' capabilities in the exacting sport of dog obedience.

Right here is the hardest working Obedience Chair in the United States of America!

Ginia Manchester put on one heck of a trial!

Saturday's Ring Stewards Carol Nielsen, Ruby Sisk, and Martha Veach listen to the judge with some exhibitors.

Judge Marilyn Gormley presents Paducah Kennel Club member Steve Johnson and Standard Poodle, Tessa, their first place ribbon.

And first place in another class for PKC member Sally Moore and her homebred yellow lab, Lily.

This Boxer from Tennessee figured it was a Saturday in Spring in Kentucky: he was ready for the Derby!

The Sunday Ring Stewards were Tina Sisk, Ruby Sisk, and Carol Neilsen.

Huge congratulations to Sharon Shanahan and her Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Sam, on earning their UDX title on Sunday!

Sunday's judge, Patrick Higgins, presents the oh so hard to achieve tenth double-qualifying ribbons to Sharon and Sam. Just wow.

Sunday's coveted High in Trial and High Combined prizes were won by Kathy Schroeder's Mea, from St. Louis. Turns out it was Kathy's birthday, so Mea sure gave her a fantastic present.

I think maybe we worked Ruby a little too hard?

Kathy Hays shared the wonderful South Sea Rice Casserole recipe that she brought to the Christmas party!

1 and 1/2 lbs. ground trukey, 1 cup chopped onion, 1 and 1/2 cup instant rice, 2 cans chicken rice soup, 3 soup cans water, butter, 1 cup chopped green peppers, 3cups chopped celery, 1 (4oz.) can sliced mushrooms, 2tbsp.chopped parsley, 1(3/4)oz. Pkg. alomonds

Brown the ground trukey and drain. Add rest of ingredients except almonds. Pour into a well greased casserole dish. Bake @ 300 degrees for 1 and 1/2 hours. Saute almonds in butter and sprinkle over casserols. Bake 30 minutes longer.

The Annual Christmas Party at PKC

Neither wind, nor rain, nor cold, nor nothin' could keep PKC members from celebrating the fellowship we enjoy at our Annual Christmas Feast, Awards Program, and Benefit Auction! It was a nasty night outside, but inside, our meeting room was filled with laughter, festive food, and great cheer.

Some magical elves (named Ginia Manchester, Lee King, Dee Felts, Gloria Meriwether, Charlotte Holt, and Alice Jackson) decorated and cleaned the meeting room for all of us to enjoy.

Dee cooked two perfectly done turkeys with all the trimmings and a smokey, luscious ham. The members brought the rest, (hopefully we'll be posting some recipes on this blog in the near future) and the kitchen ladies pitched in to get it all set out for us.

We asked volunteer auctioneer Mike Keeling go to the front of the line.

AWARDS

The first of three President's Awards went to Debbie Cavitt. She's been teaching Obedience Classes, doing CGC and Therapy Dog International testing on a volunteer basis for the club for years. Thank you, Deb.

The second President's Award went to Cathy Crecelius. Cathy worked tirelessly to make our June Agility Trial happen. Thank you, Cathy.

The third President's Award went to Lee King. Lee is helping this (rather clueless) new President so much, that she practically is still the President in everything but name. Thank you, thank you, thank you Lee.

When Mary Bowlin was announced as the worthy recipient of a Lifetime Membership Award, she recieved a standing ovation, and there weren't many dry eyes in the house. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service, Mary.

Mary was the first to congratulate Carol Nielsen on her Lifetime Membership Award. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service, Carol.

And a loud whoop erupted for the Drs. Frank and Mary Adelman to celebrate their Lifetime Membership Awards. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service, Frank and Mary.

Outstanding Service

The PKC Award for Outstanding Service was given to Fred and Joyce Shatzer. Fred brings his own equipment and mows, mows, mows, refusing reimbursement even for gas money. (And we all know what's happened to the price of gas.) Seems like whenever there's a job that needs doing, Fred is there, all matter of fact, no fanfare. Joyce has taken on the roll of Secretary with aplomb. Her notes are accurate, and she tries to keep the new President straight. (No easy job, that!) The Secretary's duty is a big task, and Joyce does it quietly, efficiently, and without complaint or recognition. And then there are the baskets. For raffles and for our Christmas auction, no one can wait to see the Shatzers' baskets. Artfully presented, they are overfilled with amazing goodies! Year after year, those beautiful baskets are our top bidded-on items, and have raised a huge amount for the PKC. Thank you and congratulations, Joyce and Fred!

This year's Walker-Wiseman Award for Outstanding Service went to Dee Felts. And in the wise words of the Awards Committee, "That's a no-brainer!" Did you ever wonder how the PKC grounds stays so neat looking? Dee is out there with her weed-eater, all summer long. Have you noticed how many new trees have been planted? Dee and her trusty shovel. Who hauls the trash away, and who takes the recycling in? Dee. Who washes the dish rags and all those festive red tablecloths? Dee. Who cooks and cleans for every function? Who comes early and stays late? Dee and Dee. Who meticulously balances our books and finds us the best deals on insurance, on the mortgage, on whatever we need? You guessed it: Dee Felts. I'm sure there's more, but for this award and for everything you do for the Paducah Kennel Club, congratulations and thank you, Dee Felts.

We have to thank volunteer auctioneer, Mike Keeling for doing the honors each year for us. He helped us raise a bountiful sum, and made us laugh while we opened our hearts and our wallets!

The camera man was too busy bidding big bucks for his 'far' engine red cadilac cap (sigh) to take pictures, but congratulations to all of us for bringing great stuff and bidding up a storm. Special mention must be made to Betsy Bosarth's fiance', Dave Chester. Dave not only fixed the training room heater for free, he was one of the evening's High Rollers, bidding $35 on this rubber chicken! You rock, Dave!

Agility Trial Oct 22 - 25

Marth Veach and her young Labrador, Wilson, compete at PKC's June trial at the Sports Plex.

Come on out to the Paducah Regional Sports Plex (approximately 2.5 miles west from I-24, Highway 60 in Paducah, exit 4) to see the fastest growing AKC dog sport in the country!

Thursday hours are 4 PM to around 9 PM. Friday and Saturday are completely filled. More than 330 dogs will run from 8 AM to around 5 PM and on Sunday we'll run more than 300 dogs from 8 AM to around 4 PM.

Paducah Kennel Club members will be wearing their red shirts and will be happy to answer your questions.

for spectators! Bring your friends!

You won't believe how much fun you have. Competitors are mingling around with spectators, and you can have a front row seat right in all the action.

This is our biggest trial yet. Members of the WORLD TEAM are coming to Paducah to compete, along with amateurs and professionals from all over the country. There will also be vendors with unique goodies that you can't find elsewhere.

SEMINAR!

On the 3rd and 4th of October, PKC hosted an Obedience Seminar, given by Bridget Carlsen.

Bridget Carlsen and her Norwich Terrier demonstrating the happy training technique, which has won Bridget such renown.

Bridget Carlsen has been training dogs for over 30 years. She has put 52 titles (and counting!) from the sports of Obedience, Field and Agility on seven Golden Retrievers and a Norwich Terrier. Her accomplishments include 6 Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH) titles, 8160 lifetime OTCH points, 147 High in Trial (HIT) awards, 195 High Combined (HC) awards, and perfect 200 scores in both Open and Utility.

Working slots were full and even auditing slots for the Seminar were well attended.

Obedience Chair, Virginia Manchester wrote:

I would like to give a big thanks to Debbie Cavitt for a great weekend. The kitchen crew was wonderful as usual-----Dee, Lee, and Patience. Also a big thanks to all who brought food. We had a great turnout and people from as far away as Maryland, and Kansas City, St Louis, Nashville and Evansville. I''m probably leaving others out and I apologize.

And the comments from the participants were so complimentary:

"We always know the food is going to be good at Paducah!"
"You people sure do know how to put on a party!"
"You are so lucky to have this place. It's just beautiful."

So Much Fun!

PKC member Martha Veach had a great idea. "Let's have an Agility Show and Go, and then a potluck. Greg will cook his world famous smoked pork chops, and everyone can bring sides and desserts."

Yes, indeedy!

I forgot my camera, so there are no photos of the challenging course that was built, but it was great practice. (Thanks to Martha for these photos.) We charged $5 for unlimited runs for PKC members, and $7 for non-members. Indoors, the obedience ring was all set to go for obedience practice. We ran some seriously happy dogs from 4 pm to 6:30, and the rain for the most part held off.

Then it was ... dinnertime. Oh yeah. I'll tell you what, PKC members can solid cook! Greg's pork chops, in addition to being HUGE, were tender, smokey, juicy oh lordy yum. And then there was the rest. I know I'm going to leave something - several somethings - out. Too much to remember. But, chili, cheesy scalloped potatoes, white beans, salad, ambrosia, wild rice, bread salad, melons, garden 'maters, butternut squash casserole, Ramon noodle salad, bananas in some kind of way yummy yogurt nut sauce, pies, pies, oh my gosh pies, blueberry crumble, cake, cookies, and more!

All that for $5 per person. Yes, you heard it right. I'm still full!

After paying for the meat, the club made $95. Talk about win win!

Sam won Utility B in Evansville on Saturday, Sept. 5th, with a 194 1/2. It was a big class and there were lots of REALLY good dogs there, so I was stunned! Then he got a 193 1/2 in Open, which did not place him in the ribbons, but gave him his second UDX leg, and he now has 45 Master Obedience points. And the Utility win gave him his first OTCh points--17 points! And this was only the third time he's been in the UDX classes. What a grand little guy!

The Paducah Kennel Club will be offering Obedience Classes and Agility Classes!

Obedience Classes will begin on October 1st, and will be Thursday nights. Six classes are only $75 (with a discount for PKC members). This is a basic class for family pets, taught by folks who know and love dogs, and have earned obedience titles on their dogs. Dogs should be up to date on all vaccinations, including Kennel Cough. Contact Debbie Cavitt 554-1954 or Virginia Manchester 444-9694.

Agility Classes will be held on Monday nights, starting on October 5th. They will be taught by Nationally known expert Kristy Netzer. A series of six classes, at $20 per class, payable at the first class. Dogs should have basic Obedience training, and be up to date on all vaccinations, including Kennel Cough. The weather was glorious! Sunny with a nice breeze. We had a lovely turnout, and our members worked hard.

Inside, Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International testing attracted dogs and handlers from 3.5 hours away! The tests went on all day.

And folks got their pets' portraits professionally taken, keeping the photographer busy.

A Search and Rescue bloodhound impressed everyone with her tracking skills.

It's so much fun to hear folks murmur, "Wow," "Awesome,"
and "That is so cool!"

The yard sale was a tremendous success by all accounts. Thanks to all PKC members for their hard work and good spirits, and thanks to all the folks who came out for fun!

A Great Loss

The members of the Paducah Kennel Club grieve with longtime member, Mary Adelman, over the loss of her once in a lifetime dog, Buruki.

Dr. Adelman submitted the following heartfelt tribute. Godspeed, Buruki.

There are only a few dogs who find a really special place in your heart—Buruki was one of those.

To Buruki

She is gone and where she lay the pillow still reflects her shape,
We have not fluffed it out just yet, or moved its light blue drape.
For it is still too hard to know that she is really dead,
Much easier to think she is someplace else, perhaps on her other bed.

It may be days or weeks or months before the thought moves in to stay
That she is really gone, and not just gone outside to play.
And even when the fact is etched with acid on the heart,
Each time you think that she is gone, another tear will start.

Until, in time, the sorrow finds a pillow somewhere quiet,
Curls up and settles in to sleep--another shadow in your night.
Dr. Mary Belle Adelman 9-3-09

Born August 31, 1995, Buruki was the last litter of Australian Cattle Dogs that I bred. After 30 years of breeding she was just what I wanted. A beautiful blue bitch, owned, trained & handled to all her titles by Dr. Mary Belle Adelman. Buruki finished her HXAd on August 10th, 2008, at the GSDCWKY show at Glendhenmere Kennels with a 4th place in a class of 7 entries. This is just under 5 years since she got her first leg on Started on November 4, 2004. She has 2 HIA legs on both Sheep and Cattle. Among her many accomplishments, she won Veteran’s Bitch at 2 ACDCA Nationals, was HIT from Open obedience at the Nat’l, and won the Conformation Versatility class at the Nat’l.

She has 36 titles and has given me many days of joy including several High in Trial Australian Cattle Dog on sheep, ducks, and cattle, and some overall High in Trials. Her wins are delightful and her losses sometimes memorable. She has been a lifesaver to me many times over and it is with great sorrow that we have to report illness finally put an end to her outstanding career September 3, 2009. She just passed her 14th birthday. She was able to work up to the last week and enjoyed her trademark roll in the grass just three days before the end.

Buruki is the Great-granddaughter of Glendhenmere’s Muruki UD and “Trot” Ch Tallawong Blue Jeroa CD VQW ROM who won the Versatility in 1980. Her grandmother, Ch Glendhenmere’s Mia CD QW ROM, was 2nd place. Her father is Ch Glendhenmere’s Jedi CD QW ROM, and it was for his ROM points that we came back to showing in 2004.

It is with great pride we wish to honor the memory of our friend, companion, and overall great working buddy CH WTCH Glendhenmere¹s Buruki CDX RE NA NAJ HSAcsd HIAd HXAd HSBd HTDId HTADIds HRDIs ATDcds VCH HIC CGC Int’l & Super Veteran Champion. She will be missed.

The 2nd Annual PKC DOG FAIR!

As part of a nationwide American Kennel Club celebration of Responsible Dog Ownership, the Paducah Kennel Club will host our Dog Fair on Saturday, September 12 from 9 AM to 2 PM.

This year we're adding a Doggy Item Yard Sale! Don't dare miss that! There are all sorts of dog related treasures, from collars to crates and everything in between.

There will me a microchip and tag clinic, at special rates. (That is the BEST way to protect your dog.)

There will be a Pet Parade and a practice conformation show after lunch.
And an opportunity to Meet the Breeds all day.

There will be Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog International Testing (TDI) starting first thing and going all morning.

New Championship for Shine!

Jan Sullivan was just busting at the seams -so proud of her young Weimeraner girl.

"I just got word that CH GrayMatter's Oh My Stars has finished her championship by taking Best of Winners for another 2 points! Shine you did it! Thanks goes to [PKC member] Robin Cannon who started Shine on this path to her championship! I am soooo happy, my dream for thirty years has finally come to pass. When Shine comes home we will be working in hunting, obedience and agility."

Sainte took 1st place in Novice JWW at the Paducah Kennel Club trial on June 14th, and then took third place in Novice JWW at the Gateway Agility trial at Glen Carbon, Illinois, on July 26th.

Joy showed one day at Crab Orchard in Marion Illinois. She made her owner-handler proud by going WB and BOS over a nice special! We're extra proud of Betsy and Joy. They've been members of PKC's conformation classes on Wednesday nights and have practiced hard. Congratulations!

What do you do when someone has given their heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears to your club and is stepping down?
